BISSAU, May 21 () -- Guinea-Bissau's Parliament, 25 political parties and the military junta that carried out the April 12 coup d'etat, on Sunday signed an agreement to end the political crisis, and put in place a new national electoral commission, an official source said.According to the Speaker of Parliament Ibrahima Sory Diallo, the agreement was signed by himself, military commanders led by the chief of general staff Antonio Injai and 25 political parties which include the Social Renovation Party (PRS) of Kumba Yala, who, before the coup d'etat, was the main opposition leader.The agreement was signed in the absence of seven parties which include the African Party for Independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde (PAIGC) of ex-prime minister Carlos Gomes Junior.The document stipulated that the new National Electoral Commission (CNE) will be presided over by a long serving judge and it will be charged with the responsibility of drafting a new electoral law.The agreement also provided that the future government of Rui Duarte de Barros who was appointed as prime minister on May 16, will start carrying out reforms in the defence and security sectors as well as in the administration domain.The transition president Manuel Sherifo Nhamadjo who attended this signing ceremony, said that 30 percent of seats in the future government will be reserved for women. He asked the prime minister to be firm in the management of public property."The government accounts will be audited before the future government is sworn in," he said.The April 12 military coup d'etat affected public institutions in Guinea-Bissau where a political transition process is still ongoing after the appointment of an interim president and prime minister for a period of 12 months.A West African force has started being deployed in the country to protect transitional organs and the political personalities who are expected to organize the general elections in the next one year.PAIGC has vowed that it will not recognize Guinea-Bissau's new leader.On Friday, the UN Security Council demanded for an immediate return to constitutional order and unanimously adopted travel bans for five people who organized the coup d'etat, including the head of the army general Antonio Injai.
HONG KONG, March 14 () -- Hong Kong's 53rd Festival of Sport marked its opening here on Sunday, calling on all the citizens, especially the young generation to take exercise.    The Festival of Sport, running from March to June 2010, was an annual event in HK to promote "Sport for All" and lead a healthy lifestyle in the community.    This year's edition recommended people to take part in physical and sports activities for at least 30 minutes a day and three days a week in order to lead a more healthy life.    President of Hong Kong Olympic Committee Timothy Fok appeared at the opening ceremony to encourage the public participation by joining a stretching demonstration.    "I should set a good example for Hong Kong people, especially for the young generation," he said. "Young people now have many choices in spending their spare time and I think many of them now spend two much time on computers. I hope that they would participate more in sports activities."    Betty Fung, director of Leisure and Cultural Services of HK Special Administrative Region government, revealed that an amount of 75 million HK dollars (about 10 million U.S. dollars) would be used to promote the public participation of sports according to the government budget for 2010-2011.    More than 80 sports competitions, demonstrations, family fun days and featured sports events will be organized by 74 Hong Kong sports associations from March 10 to June 10 across 18 districts in Hong Kong, which are all free to public.
