YEREVAN, June 14 () -- Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said Wednesday that his government is committed to further enhancing relations with China."Our bilateral fraternal and friendly relations have been developing dynamically recently," he said while receiving Tian Changchun, China's ambassador to the South Caucasian country."Our government will do its best to deepen those relations, because it is in the interests of the Armenian people," added the prime minister, who also spoke highly of China's various assistance to his country.Sargsyan was reappointed prime minister early this month after his party won the parliamentary election in May.Tian conveyed Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's congratulations to Sargsyan, and expressed his confidence that bilateral cooperation will further expand in different fields in the future.
BRUSSELS, Sept. 8 () -- The government's monopoly control of sports betting and lotteries in Germany might be unlawful, the European Union (EU)'s highest court said Wednesday. "The German rules do not limit games of chance in a consistent and systematic manner," so the restriction on the freedom to provide services and the freedom of establishment could not be justified, the Luxembourg-based European Court of Justice said in a ruling. It ordered the German government to end its monopoly on sporting bets and lotteries immediately. Under German law, there is a regional monopoly for the organization of sports bets and lotteries in most of the country's federal states, while control of betting on horse racing and the operation of gaming machines and casinos are entrusted to government-authorized private operators. Various German courts had asked the European Court of Justice to rule on the compatibility of the rules on games of chance in Germany with EU law.
